Teacher Penny’s Favorite Books: Have You Filled A Bucket Today?

A few weeks ago in class, we read Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud.

Penny’s thoughts: I personally love the way this book approaches the concept of being kind to others. It tells the children that everyone has a bucket, and when we are kind and do good things we fill others’ buckets, at the same time filling our own bucket as we feel good about ourselves. On the other hand, when we do and say unkind things we dip in others’ buckets as well as our own because really deep down we don’t feel good about ourselves when we are being unkind.

It also talks about when someone has an empty bucket they may be unkind to others in the hopes this will make them feel better–but it really doesn’t. These people need us to fill their buckets with kind words and sharing.

So, parents, if you are hearing you are being a bucket filler or bucket dipper at home this is what is all about.
